GUA MUSANG, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- The police will monitor 377 accident-prone stretches along federal roads during Ops Sikap 21 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festival starting Sunday.Federal deputy traffic chief ACP Fuad Abdul Latif said the police would conduct more frequent patrols along the accident hot spots. He said, however, the police would rather have road users observing traffic rules, rather than the police going after them.Twenty summons were issued to motorists for speeding hardly two hours after the launch of Ops Sikap 21, he told reporters after launching the operation at a the Road Transport Department roadblock at Kampung Mentara near here today. He said about 5,000 traffic policemen would be deployed during the operation, for which the police anticipated about three million vehicles would be using federal roads."We hope the death toll during Ops Sikap 21 will be lower than 221 recorded during the Aidilfitri festival last year," he said, adding that more attention would be given to the safety of public transport. He said express buses would be checked at bus terminals, not on the road to avoid traffic congestion.-- BERNAMA
